Life PUNISHMENT AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES THEREFORE” states that this

Life is a gift
given by God. We always believe that we are all created in His likeness and
image. We have the same dignity as a person and we have to value and protect
our lives and the lives of others. We have to take care of each one’s life. All
of us have the right to be valued. Nobody has the power to manipulate or to
disrespect others dignity.

As
we live in this wonderful world full of strife, there are many people who want others
to suffer. Other people suffer physical pains that eventually lead to torture; tortured
emotionally and psychologically. Why life really sucks? It makes us cry hundred
times, plead a thousand times and think a zillion times. Imagine why do some
people so lucky to be part of this organization, the victims of torture? Why
should some be a part of this cruel living?

REPUBLIC ACT N0. 9745 also known as “AN ACT PENALIZING TORTURE AND
OTHER CRUEL, INHUMAN AND DEGRADING TREATMENT OR PUNISHMENT AND PRESCRIBING
PENALTIES THEREFORE” states that
this law want to protect us people in terms of being tortured. This law
wants to preserve our dignity, to ensure protection
of the human rights of all persons, to avoid mental harm, force, violence,
threat or intimidation. REPUBLIC ACT N0. 9745 also wants to give us freedom to live peacefully in this world. No one
can control us. But, as we can see, 44% of us believed that they are not safe
from torture. As of 2014, there are 141 countries who still experienced tortured.
According to the 1948 Universal Human Rights, “No one shall be subjected to
torture or to be cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment”. This
statement means that we have the right to ban on torture for any purpose- even
in times of war or a threat of war or internal political instability.  REPUBLIC ACT N0. 9745 Section 9 “Institutional
of Torture Victims and Other Persons Involve” mentioned, to protect us from
torture and to have the rights to criminal complaints for any torture.  This means that we have a sufficient
government protection against all forms of harassment, threat or intimidation,
and we can file criminal complaints against those persons who violated this act.

In the end, let us always
instill in our hearts that respecting the lives of others start by respecting
our own lives. It is through starting the call within ourselves where we can help
others respect and value their lives. Let us remember the quote of Thomas Jefferson that states “The
care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and
only object of good government”.
